Sylvia Townsend Warner - 18 January, 1961
from The diaries of Sylvia Townsend Warner, page 269:
I was sweeping the stairs, and as I did so, I was asking myself what difference did it make to such an act that my Love was Roman Cat. Just then a very pretty light soprano singing came to the door. It was Mrs Candler, brining groceries, and singing to herself on this wet rather springlike morning. My silence, I thought, must seem to her morose.
