 […] then he [Diderot] presented me to his daughter a pretty and amiable young lady of 17, who is a great performer on the harpsichord and has a prodigious collection of the best German authors for that instrument. She played some pieces in every different style – is a great mistress of modulation – has a good finger, but not quite correct in time.
