After the rehearsal I did not go straight home as there was a Requiem Mass for Anton Rubinstein and after that a rehearsal for the third performance of the Faust/Onegin programme, the one being done to piano accompaniment. After that I did go home, practised the piano for Moscow, had dinner, and went to the student concert in the company of Kokochka Shtember*, who called for me. The student concerts this year have not caught fire: they are not well attended, the programmes are short and generally have a somewhat drab character. Had it not been for Kokochka I would have expired from boredom... I was delighted when, towards the end of the interval, Shurik Bushen* appeared, her hands importantly plunged into her pockets. We spent the remainder of the evening together and thus avoided boredom. She has also read The Gambler and is excited by it. Golubovskaya is reading it now. Lintvaryova, another Yesipova student and a very nice girl, played some Scarlatti very well indeed at the concert.
