As soon as the bitterness of winter was over I received the King and Queen's commands to attend the Duchess of Portland to the Queen's House at eight o'clock in the evening; there was no company there hut the five princesses and Lady Charlotte Finch. There was a concert of music in the next room, which (the door being open) we heard in a very agreeable manner. The King walked backwards and forwards between the rooms; had a great deal of conversation with the Duchess of Portland; and did me the honour of sharing it with me sometimes.
