I can still hear the splendid passion which Edith Santley threw into those last three lines [of ‘My soul is an enchanted boat’]. She held the audience from start to finish, and that they really caught something of our young enthusiasm as we finished the last beautiful words was only too evident by the reception they gave us. Even the critics were kind that evening—more than kind.
