I remember a dinner once at Madame Schumann's in Berlin, when, to the wonder and amid frequent exclamations of awe or, sometimes, good-natured disapproval on the part of the hostess, Anton Rubinstein entertained us with a recital of his experiences in the United States, whence he had just returned after a tour of two hundred and fifteen concerts in eight months.
