Rehearsal with Stock. Wisely, he had decided to go through the work with the orchestra well in advance. He wanted me to play the solo piano part, but in the first place the piano had no pedals as the lyre had been broken off when the piano was brought on to the stage, and in the second I do not yet thoroughly know the piece. Some passages are fine, but in others I go wrong when I am together with the orchestra. But Stock was not asking for a note-perfect performance, and I spent more time beside him on the podium looking at the score. The accompaniment sounded soft and pleasant. Stock was very complimentary, and the orchestra clapped me at the end. In general, the Concerto has turned out much better than I thought it was going to do when I was composing it during the summer.
