The idea for Bluebell Wood [a painting by Benedict Rubbra] came soon after listening to the recording sessions of my father’s Violin and Viola Concertos. Vernon Handley was conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Tasmin Little played the violin and Rivka Golani the viola. The idea, or cell, of the painting was inspired by the inner strength and controlled tension of the music.
