Edward Wright in Bologna - 8 December, the 1720's
from Some Observations made travelling through France, Italy etc., in the years 1720-1722, page 450:
On the Eve of the Immaculate Conception [Dec. 7.] we heard an Academical Performance, consisting of short Exercises, some in verse, some in prose, upon the immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin, spoken by several in their turns; among which were some of the chief Quality of the City […] The Performance concluded with Fireworks, Illuminations, &c. On the Day following (which was the Feast-day) was a great Concert of Musick, both vocal and instrumental, in the same Church, which they told us was compos'd by a Boy of thirteen Years old.
