Rev. George Townsend in a trip from Cisternae, Lazio to Albano, Lazio - 18 May, 1850, in the morning
from Journal of a tour in Italy, in 1850, with an account of an interview with the Pope at the Vatican, page 226:
Saturday, the 18th [May 1850]—We set off very early to Albano. The peasant women sing very prettily, in alternate chorus, a morning hymn to the Virgin. I could not believe that their song elevated the mind as much as if it had ascended to her, and to their Creator.
