Charlie took his other marine engineering exams, without any trouble, and mother benefitted by regular help from him as he was making regular voyages. He bought a fine new piano from Messers. Rushworth and Dreaper’s, the only article ever to come into our home on H.P. He and I both took a few music lessons, but it was Ernest, the untaught player-by-ear who really made melody, beautifully and easily, and no doubt he had much more enjoyment from Charlie’s piano than ever did Charlie himself.
