from I remember! Reminiscences of a Cobbler's Son, pages 18-19:
[W]hen I was 5 or 6 years old, I went to Clowes Primitive Methodist Sunday School which was only about 5 minutes walk away […] The Superintendent was a Mr. Green […]. Mr Green was a grand old chap, very tall, with a white beard. I remember some of the first hymns we learned to sing-- “Down in the valley with my Saviour I will go”, “A little ship was on the sea”, ‘Precious Jewels”, etc.
