In a cool parlour [at the inn] I breakfasted comfortably; wrote letters; and then enquired about church going;―my landlord thought it would be evening-service, but it proved to be morning:―So I powdered my hair, enter’d the church, and was shewn into a good pew amidst some farmers.  A large church; but a small congregation.―Mr Dundas―or somebody very like him, drawled the prayers; and deliver'd a sermon.―Our service is most fatiguing, and ill put together, too tedious for age, or for youth.  Mr D. lesson’d us about the Philistines; and preach’d to us about the Pharisees […] Some poor weak singing.  The Catholick service is much better than ours.
