The listening experience is taken from Holcroft’s diary, describing daily life 1797-1799. Hazlitt reproduced the diary at the end of vol. 2. Fanny Magaretta Holcroft (1780-1844), like her father, played violin and wrote poetry and for the theatre. She translated plays from German, Italian and Spanish for her father’s publication the ‘Theatrical Recorder’.
