Diary entry 31st July 1728

Mrs. Prade call’d me to go to the ‘Beggar’s Opera’ A new Company in the Hay Markett. There was the Duke of Norfolk, his Brother and Lady, Lord Buckan (our neighbour), and his Son, Mr.Mackworth, Mr.Pread etc., good Company considering the Town is very empty. It was but sorryly perform’d. Set down past 9.
