On the 2th I attended Glagoleva's and Alpers's examination performances. Frieda [Hansen] was not there at the beginning, but a little while later came in and sat near the front. I listened to Verochka's playing. It was all right, quite good, she has made progress, as I told her in a very friendly way. Then I went into the artists' room, where Lyosya was moping about before going on stage to play her number. 'I'm going out to Sestroretsk today for the start of the season,' she said. 'Why don't you come?' I was delighted. We agreed that I would come to their house at five o' clock, have something to eat, the company would then assemble in order to leave at six. Glagoleva played rather routinely, but made a perfect stage entrance. |
