Edward Brittain in Italy - 22 December, 1917

from Letter from Edward Brittain to Vera Brittain, 22 Dec. 1917, page 387:

We are only half in the mountains here; we face them and the Austrian sits on them.... We have had a little snow here lately but it hasn't stayed.... The servants are singing 'Hark the herald angels' and 'Good King Wencelas' somewhat out of tune and raucously in the kitchen
