Louis Spohr in Riga - at the end of 1802

from Louis Spohr's Autobiography, page 36:

[Quoted from Spohr's diary:] “The concert went off badly. A virtuoso on the flute, from Stockholm, who first played an old fashioned concerto by Devienne in place of Herr Eck, pleased as little as a dilettante from St. Petersburgh, who executed a concerto for the piano by Mozart, in a most schoolboy-like manner.”

Notes

From Spohr’s diary, after Eck’s refusal to appear at a concert for the Society of Musical Dilettanti in Riga. Replacements for the concert, which had been advertised as being given by Eck, had been procured last-minute. (Autumn, 1802)
