It was then doing duty as an anteroom to the platform of the Great Hall, where the redoubtable Freddie Haggis was conducting his orchestra in a programme of such old Whitley Bay favourites of mine such as the Unfinished Symphony of Schubert, and Ippolitov-Ivanov's 'Caucasian Sketches'.
