The ball [was] preceded by a concert: (1) two pianos - Anisimova and Ospovat; (2) recitation (without music) - Glagoleva; (3) solo piano - Sadovskaya; (4) trio - Gvirstman, Zimbalist and myself; (5) violin - Villik; (6) solo piano - Shvarts; (7) a concluding trifle, a piece by Glinka to be played by our trio. [...] The first few items did not require my presence. First were Anisimova and Ospovat in 'Gnomes', not too bad, beta minus. This was followed by Glagoleva reciting Nadson's 'Life'.
