The ball [was] preceded by a concert: (1) two pianos - Anisimova and Ospovat; (2) recitation (without music) - Glagoleva; (3) solo piano - Sadovskaya; (4) trio - Gvirstman, Zimbalist and myself; (5) violin - Villik; (6) solo piano - Shvarts; (7) a concluding trifle, a piece by Glinka to be played by our trio. [...] The first few items did not require my presence. First were Anisimova and Ospovat in 'Gnomes', not too bad, beta minus. This was followed by Glagoleva reciting Nadson's 'Life'. Nerves affected the start of this, so I was told, but she got better as she went on, so had a success … more >>
