Sergei Prokofiev in Saint Petersburg Conservatory - 11 January, 1908

from Sergey Prokofiev diaries: 11 January 1908, page 36:

I went to the opera class for the first time today because I had to play the piano for The Merry Wives while Brauer conducted and the whole class sang. He took a terribly fast tempo, and I had never seen the score before, so I had to strain every nerve and deploy all my skill to avoid falling flat on my face.
