Lionel Tertis in Royal College of Music - 1949

from My Viola and I: a complete autobiography / Lionel Tertis, page 100:

The next happening of importance was a recital I gave at the Royal College of Music with Lady Fermoy and Max Rostal in 1949, for the purpose of instituting prizes for viola compositions there. I was able to gather some £400. The result of the first competition was that not only were the works submitted of mediocre quality, but hardly a note was written for the C string! Which after all is the characteristic and satisfying sonority of the viola.
