anonymous in Royal Festival Hall - 1979

from Southbank Centre Archive:

So much recollection from my first decade of living in London from 1979 as a twenty something jostles to be included: The (rather awful) salt beef sandwich counter opposite the green side's stairs around the corner from the long bar; a Mozart 'Jupiter' Symphony and Bruckner 9 with the LSO under the great Czech conductor Rafael Kubelik (the LSO's first violins, not as cultivated a group as nowadays, sounded that night like the Vienna Philharmonic in the second subject of the Mozart 1st movement).
