Johann Wenzel Tomaschek in Prague - September, 1818

from Excerpts from the Memoirs of J. W. Tomaschek, page 262:

Her intonation was crystal-clear; moreover, the transition from register to register gave evidence of the best vocal training. All the ornaments that she introduced in the course of the music pointed to a well developed sensitiveness, full of artistic tasteĀ unquestionably a shining virtue that is only too often lacking in most singers. Were I to censure anything in Catalani's singing, it would be the chromatic scale-work in which she repeated each note with the greatest rapidity; by such tours de force she often jarred me from my most blissful moods.
