It really was a sight to be seen on Sunday evening when I had to play him my oratorio [St Paul] while inquisitive Leipzigers crowded on tiptoe into the room so as to be able to say they had seen Chopin. Between the first and second parts of the oratorio he dashed off his new studies and latest concerto to the astonishment of the Leipzigers, and then I went on with my St Paul just as if an Iroquois and a Kaffir had met and conversed.
