in Paris - 1848
from Life and letters of Sir Charles Hallé; being an autobiography (1819-1860) , pages 92-93:
Two concerts had been given when the Revolution broke out, and to me everything was changed as by magic..The audience at our third concert did not number fifty people, although every place was subscribed for. The outlook was most gloomy and I realised soon that a serious crisis had arrived in my life, and that an immediate determination had to be taken for the sake of my family, which consisted then of my wife and two small children.
