The pianist was Kobylyansky, who played his own sonata, as I had done at the last concert. He plays quite well (he graduated from Yesipova's class) but not as well as I do, his playing lacks passion and on one occasion he lost his way and had to stop, his embarrassment as a performer communicating itself inevitably to the audience. The sonata itself does not make much impression of organic unity and neither is it very original; there is evidence of talent but the composer's musical taste is not very highly cultivated.
