Of the three orchestral compositions that were played, the overture by Mehrwolf was talented; he should certainly have a career. Spivakovsky's overture was total rubbish ('To my dear teacher A. K. Glazunov' . . . what a treat for Glazunov!) Lvov's Symphony, the fruit of seven years' labour, deserves some consideration; occasional passages show talent, but elsewhere the music is painfully feeble, for instance the conclusions of all four movements. Limp-wristed Lvov will plainly never make a composer.
