in Manchester - the 1860's
from Life and letters of Sir Charles Hallé; being an autobiography (1819-1860) , page 136:
On January 25, 1860, the work [Gluck's Iphigenie en Tauride] was performed in the Free Trade Hall, Manchester, with an enormous success. Mme. Catharine Hayes, Messrs. Sims Reeves, L. Thomas, and Santley, were the interpreters, and could not well be surpassed in their respective roles. It had to be repeated several times during the season.
