Sergei Prokofiev in Saint Petersburg Conservatory - 3 December, 1912
from Sergey Prokofiev diaries: 3 December 1912, page 248:
Today we had our first opera rehearsals in the new hall: the powers that be were listening from every part of the hall to check the acoustics and the ensemble between orchestra, chorus and soloists, but were unable to tell what sounded good and what did not. One thing is certain: the orchestra is hard to hear on the stage. Tcherepnin was conducting and will continue to do so until 'things settle down'.
