Richard Temple Savage in London - 1936

from A voice from the Pit: Reminiscences of an Orchestral Musician, pages 45-46:

Malcolm Sargent conducted Charpentier's "Louise" which was not such fun. Opera was not his forte and it was obvious from the first rehearsal that he knew far less about the work than the experienced French principals who had come over from the Opéra Comique; but this did not deter him from telling them how it should be done.
