It was at the suggestion of a mutual friend, the late Mrs. Angelina Goetz–herself an accomplished musician–that a Scottish Concerto was written for and played by him for the first time at a Philharmonic concert in 1987; and to Paderewski I am indebted for many improving hints and a careful revision of the solo part. The piece was ready for the previous season, but its production had to be postponed, as his tours left no leisure for preparation. the debut was a successful one, and after repeated recalls he said: "If I play again I shall repeat the last movement."
