Joseph Szigeti - at the end of the 1900's
from With strings attached- Reminiscences and reflections, 2nd edition, enlarged, pages 108,109:
This concerto [by Hamilton Harty, dedicated to Szigeti], which I played a number of times in London and elsewhere under Sir Henry Wood, Sir Landon Ronald, and others, gradually found its way into the repertory of other violinists too, mostly Anglo-Saxons. I had the somewhat “paternal” – or, rather, “godfatherly” – satisfaction of hearing the still disarmingly charming work, more than a quarter of a century after my introducing it, in an excellent broadcast performance by the BBC under Sir Adrian Boult, with Paul Beard as soloist.
