Letter from Bunsen to his wife, Cologne :Sunday morning, half past six; 20th July, 1848 - Here I am, sitting with my three sons, the glorious bells of the Cathedral ringing in the Thanksgiving for Germany's Reichsverweser, or Administrator of the Empire (the Cathedral itself is to be ready for opening on August 14, 1848, the first time since August 14, 1248) ; all soldiers with the citizens going about in their gold, black, and red cockades.
