Then the belfry itself, the bells balanced on large beams, with great wheels to pull them round. the man rang the B ♭bell for us. It wheeled over abruptly, and the noise clanged, swelled and grew outward on the air, trembled and then settled on the third.

Sylvia was staying with Charles Prentice (typographer) and Vera and Harold Raymond (her publishers at Chatto and Windus). She doesn't actually say so but the tone of the diary here suggests they were with her.
