Sylvia Townsend Warner in Maiden Newton - 6 April, 1941

from The diaries of Sylvia Townsend Warner, pages 110-11:

Woke into the wireless news that Germany has attached Jugoslavia.  Afterwards listened to Hitler's speeches, and the German news on the Paris radio.  Belgrade is arrosée des bombes.  A cold day without, and heavy within.  The BBC did the 2nd half of the Matthew Passion in the afternoon.
