Earlier in the morning V. turned on the wireless into the middle of the sustained B flat of the 9th Symphony.  Seid umschlungen, millionen.  But in the midst of standing there absorbed, a part of my mind could notice that the chorus singers had the tone of people who had spent a lean winter, and coughed oft - though the soloists were all well-buttered enough.
