I then went to the Maly Zal* where I found all the participants in a concert and where, moreover, Stravinsky's Three Japanese Lyrics (a worthless piece of music) was to be rehearsed. I should have liked to go into the teaching area of the Conservatoire to see how things are done in Moscow, but had no time to do so. As for Moscow's Maly Zal, it is a thousand times inferior to our own Small Hall. Myaskovsky's Sonata sounds wonderful; I particularly like the opening. Myaskovsky, Saradzhev and Derzhanovsky are all ecstatic over my Ballade, especially Myaskovsky.
