Buddy Tate in City of Tulsa - mid 20th Century
from Jazz Anecdotes, pages 270-1:
In ten minutes he [Lester Young] was dressed and came down there, and I wish you could have heard him then. I never heard anybody play tenor [sax] like that in my life!
He sounded just a little bit different from an alto. He sounded between an alto and a C-melody. But ideas? He made them! He was swinging like mad.
