Serge Diaghileff et al. in Rome - early March, 1915

from Sergey Prokofiev diaries: 6-9 March 1915, page 26:

[Marginal note on the entry for 6 - 9 March] 'Diaghilev is nervous whenever he is on the water, and would not allow the rowers to sing. There was a light breeze, and although the boat rocked only slightly, it was enough to frighten Diaghilev. When the oarsmen started to sing softly, Diaghilev stopped them, saying that this was no time to sing, seeing that any moment we might be drowned.'
