Sergei Prokofiev - 11 February, 1916, at night

from Sergey Prokofiev diaries: 11 February 1916, page 87:

I could not restrain myself from boasting about the telegram* at that evening's 'Contemporaries' concert. The event itself was as drab and boring as could be, inflicting on us pieces by Akimenko, Yulia Weisberg and other such prunes, while that alley-cat of a Zakharov had once again failed to learn Myaskovsky's Second Sonata**.

* a telegram from Diaghilev, notifying S.P. of the first payment for his commissioned ballet. ** It is unclear if Boris Zakharov withdrew from the scheduled performance of Nikolay Myaskovsky's Second Sonata or played it badly.
