Borovsky's concert was on the 14th. Recalling his magnificent performance of my 'Scherzo' from Op. 12 last year, I was greatly looking forward to my Second Sonata, but was disappointed: the first movement was played without much warmth, the Scherzo too fast and consequently lacking clarity. The Andante was good, but the Finale went completely to pieces with an exaggerated tempo. Normally the Sonata is very successful, but on this occasion it was received coldly.
