Sergei Prokofiev in Pervaya Rota, Saint Petersburg - 8 April, 1917

from Sergey Prokofiev diaries: April 1917, pages 187-188:

On the 8th I arranged one of my regular Pervaya Rota chess tournaments, which as usual occupied me to the exclusion of pretty much anything else. This time there were new faces: Orlov and Anichkov, friends of Tyulin. Anichkov it was who took first prize, and then astonished me by sitting down at the piano and dashing off at a furious tempo the finale of Beethoven's 'Appassionata' Sonata.
