I miss the violoncello and clarinet soloists, mostly sightless, who used to patrol the streets of the "quiet" neighbourhood [of London] in which my early youth was passed, whose rate of progress averaged about one mile in four hours, and who never played any air, so far as my memory serves me, that was not imbued by its nature or their art with a settled and heartrending melancholy.
