The last performance in the Ballets Russes's short season was on the 23rd, and was devoted entirely to Stravinsky's ballets. It was the first time I had seen Le Sacre on the stage, and it made a colossal impression on me: I was truly awestruck, and embraced Stravinsky with unaffected emotion. What with the success of Chout, and its favourable comparisons to the now somewhat faded Firebird, and hearing on all sides that Stravinsky had been unhorsed by Chout and was grinding his teeth in frustrated rage, I had been misled into underestimating Stravinsky. …   more >>
