Sergei Prokofiev in Pianos Pleyel, Avenue Daumesnil, Paris - 3 May, 1924, in the afternoon
from Sergey Prokofiev diaries: 3 May 1924, pages 48-49:
Played the Second Concerto to Koussevitzky. As we entered the Pleyel shop, we encountered Stravinsky, jacketless and unbuttoned shirt, rehearsing his Concerto with Jean Wiéner. We were in time to hear only the concluding bars, which came over very well, dramatically effective even in the technically bravura passages where Stravinsky rose to the occasion, throwing himself with abandon into the octaves. He proudly showed us his biceps. Where can he have got those from?
