Sergei Prokofiev in Paris - May, 1924

from Sergey Prokofiev diaries: 20 May 1924, page 55:

We went to a concert by Damrosch, who is giving a series of six Beethoven programmes. The French do not take him seriously, and indeed the old man conducts miserably. Still, owing to the participation of the Irish tenor McCormack the hall was full and the audience prinked to the height of fashion.
