At the concert I was sharing a box with N.K. [Natalya Koussevitzky] and Borovsky. We were on tenterhooks for Stravinsky: suppose he got completely lost? 'He's like a girl about to lose her virginity,' I observed. His entrance on to the stage showed how much he was on edge, but the ovation he received gave him courage. He had a copy of the score beside him on the piano stool in case of an emergency, but he played well, with élan and without obviously coming off the rails.
