In the evening I went again to Damrosch's concert, where Hofmann played Beethoven's Fourth Piano Concerto. It was surprising that Hofmann, who is so enormously successful in America and in Russia, was performing for the first time in Paris. He played with simplicity and refinement, and had a boisterous reception.
