Caroline Powys in Matlock Bath - in the middle of 1757

from Journal of a Tour into Yorkshire and Derbyshire, 1757, page 31:

At two the bell rings for dinner, and, as before said, ease without unnecessary ceremony reigns here. Every one sits down without any form, those who come first by the rule taking the uppermost seats at the long table. There is a gallery for a band of music, who play the whole time of meals.
